Linear North: Intergraph Workstation

Let’s go ahead and call it ‘apocalypse drone’. Linear North sent in this awesome track for the MEANS compilation series and its a corker – a long gestating slow-build affair that sounds as if it was ripped from the soundtrack of a dystopian sci-fi epic. Ultra-repetitive arpeggiations loiter beneath a sea of reverbs and mild distortion, their nature framed by some rhythmic clicks in the higher register, as if a field of Circadas are watching the world burn. It’s minimal to a tee – the tracks only progression coming in the form of some buried chord changes as the arpeggiation steadily drifts away, overcome by metallic risers and eternal trails of reverb.

Beyond their inclusion win the MEANS comp, Linear North were last seen putting together a session for Phantom Circuit: that release encompasses 9 short tracks with a more vibrant aesthetic, beats and everything, though still maintaining that dystopian nod. It’s all mesmerising stuff, and fully worth a handful of quid to pick up a copy. If any sort of synth-heavy, doom-laden, futuristic end-times vibe is your bag, I fully recommend checking them out, here.
