Kvalia is an experimental music project from Serbia – the translation of the track name “Traditsiya” offered as part of the second volume of our MEANS compilations series is “Tradition”. There is a poignant line in the track “Brides close the shutter of intensified indifference” this poetic expression could be interpreted as some sort of societal commentary.
The band/project are described as renegades which is overwhelmingly apparent in this post-punk style track, a high pitch synthetic call to arms and loose aggressive yet contradictory regimented drumming which would be at home on any football terrace on a cold Winters Saturday afternoon. Also tinges of the early Jesus and Mary Chain and Big Audio Dynamite drumming although I suspect completely unintentional.
What really stands out though is the vocal delivery, emotional, raw, aggressive and completely unapologetically pure Post-Industrial Punk, let it rip a hole right through you!
The EP appears in digital and cassette format a lovely limited edition red cassette signed by the artist in white pen and presented in a clear plastic case. An additional piece of “merch” I spotted on photo three of the cassette photos is a lovely print of a very piece of modern abstract art by the artist Marina Leonteva which would not look out of place hung in the Tate Modern or the Saatchi Gallery as a big piece against a large white wall.
